Equipment 1.- Mask Fogging Control
Mask fogging can be control easily if you know what to do.Materials
When you buy a new mask, you must double check that it is made from tempered glass. If it is not, chances are you will never get rid of the fog regardless what you do.New mask treatment
When you buy a new mask normally it has a thin invisible protection layer attached to the glass. The problem is that this layer causes your mask to fog, so you must clean it before you start using it.- Soap method. - This method basically consists on cleaning your mask thoroughly with liquid soap and a sponge. Remember to use a soft sponge, and don't ever use something that could scratch your lenses.
- Toothpaste method. – Cleaning your lenses using toothpaste and your finger you can get rid of a good amount of this layer. I personally don't like this method because some toothpastes have dost-like particles that can scratch your lenses, but a lot of divers use it.
- Fire method. - This method is normally use after you clean your mask with the soap method. Basically, you use a lighter to generate a flame that touches momentaneous every section of your lenses. In consequence the film is burned, and the problem will disappear. For this method you must be very careful to move the lighter around and no to stay in the same spot for more than 1-2 seconds. Also, try not to get the flame in contact with the rubber your mask structure is made of.
Spit
Before every dive you must lubricate your lenses creating a thin layer where drops don't form. There are different techniques and products to achieve this, but I find that the spit is the best lubricant for this job. The best way to do this is to take your mask, spit on the lenses, rub it with your fingers and let it dry. This will take around 1 minute. Now, when you are going to get into the water, put the mask on go in and just rinse it 1 or 2 time. This should maintain your mask clear though the dive.
