5 Tips to Improve your Diving when Starting

5 Tips for Becoming a Better Diver when Starting

When you start scuba diving you may fill comfortable in the water and think everything is going fine, but you may be doing a lot of little mistakes. Next I list some details that will make beginners improve their diving quality.

1.- Mask fogging

One of the first thing your instructor teaches you is to clear your mask, but sometimes they don't teach you the right way to control the fogging in it. Remember that when you buy a new mask it must be treated before diving in order to control fogging, and a good spit goes a long way. In the next link you will find technics for Mask Fogging Control.

2.-Control your buoyancy

You can notice easily when a diver is new in the sport when s/he doesn't control their buoyancy. The worst thing about this is that it could become dangerous for the diver and/or for the dive site. A good way for improving you buoyancy control is to make extra stops at 3, 2 and 1 meter depth at the end of the dive. This is quite hard to do and it's a great exercise.

3.- Don't take extra stuff

When you are new in the sport you may get excited and buy a lot of gadgets, but remember you don't need everything for every dive. For example, if you are making a 10 meter day dive in the Caribbean Sea you don't need your brand new $100 dollar lantern.

4.- Everything must be close to your body

Always remember that if you have a piece of equipment floating around it might get hurt or attached to something. When you get into the water double check that everything is in place.

5.-Position

One of the most difficult things to achieve (mostly with a vest type BCD) is a good position, which must be mainly horizontal. If you have a good position underwater your movements will be easier and you air consumption will decrease. There are several exercises like "hovering" that will help your technique.
